There is however a lack of knowledge about recovery and rehabilitation in this patient group and outcome may to some extent be dependent on local organization of healthcare and community or society support.

My PhD project ”Recovery and rehabilitation in chronic critical illness” aims to shed light on several aspects of chronic critical illness, recovery and outcome for patients treated at a specialized center in Sweden. My first studies will document outcomes in terms of survival, success rates for weaning from mechanical ventilation, decannulation and discharge to home and/or further rehabilitation. Additionally, physical and mental health during and after treatment at Remeo, as well as health related quality of life (HRQoL) after discharge will be investigated along with more specific features of the syndrome of chronic critical illness.
